JumpStart™ typically incorporates 1.5–2.0% calcium chloride by cement weight, achieving initial set in 2–4 hours and final set in 6–8 hours at 0 °C to –3 °C ambient temperatures. Compressive strengths reach 10 MPa at 24 hours and 20 MPa at 3 days, enabling form removal and loading per engineering schedules while meeting CSA A23.1 cold-weather requirements.
The rapid stiffening supports conventional screeding and troweling within a 45–60 minute placement window, even at sub-5 °C temperatures. Higher early-age stiffness reduces surface bleeding and improves float/trowel traction, delivering dense, durable residential slabs without cold joints or plastic shrinkage cracks common in unaccelerated winter pours.
While JumpStart™ enables pours down to –3 °C ambient, standard cold-weather practices remain essential: heated mix water (40–60 °C), insulated blankets or enclosures post-placement, and minimum concrete temperatures of 5 °C during finishing and 0 °C for 48 hours after placement. This ensures the accelerated hydration completes without thermal shock or delayed strength gain.
