Smooth Backfill with FlowFill™

FlowFill™ is a flowable, pumpable fill that eliminates compaction needs for soil backfill or hard-to-reach locations. It pours easily from the truck, fills voids quickly, and supports structures without settlement.

No Compaction Required

FlowFill™ requires no lifts, tamping, or compacting equipment. Just pour continuously or in lifts directly from the truck for fast, hassle-free installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our CBM Concrete Solutions product line covers a wide range of project needs – from self-consolidating and high-workability flatwork mixes to fibre-reinforced, accelerated strength, extended workability, and durability-focused formulations. All mixes are performance-based and CSA-compliant. Our technical team can also develop custom mix designs for projects with specific structural or environmental requirements.

We work directly with engineers and contractors before the first truck arrives – reviewing exposure class, strength development, pumping distances, and workability windows to build a concrete program around your project, not around a standard product. The Gordie Howe International Bridge, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and 141 Bay are examples of that process at work.

Yes. Every customer has access to the same ready mix concrete solutions and quality-controlled mixes that go into our largest builds. Get in touch with your local CBM representative to discuss your requirements.

CBM is proud to be part of Votorantim Cimentos, one of the largest building materials companies in the world. Our VC Way is the operating philosophy that runs across the entire Votorantim Cimentos family – and it shapes how our teams work every day. For our customers, that means decisions made close to the job, clear communication from order to delivery, and accountability that does not stop once the truck leaves the plant. The work we did at Ripley’s Aquarium, the Gordie Howe International Bridge, and other countless projects reflects exactly that – sustained technical collaboration, dependable execution, and a standard of care that holds across the full life of a project.

FlowFill™ uses low cementitious content (typically 50-120 kg/m³) with fly ash, fine aggregates, and water to achieve target strengths from 0.4 MPa (flowable backfill) to 5.0 MPa (structural support) at 28 days. The precise water/powder ratio and superplasticizer dosage ensure flow >650 mm (ASTM D6108) while remaining excavatable with standard equipment even after years in place.

On-site verification includes flow table spread measurement (>650 mm), unit weight (typically 1900-2100 kg/m³), and temperature monitoring during continuous pour. Post-placement cylinder breaks at 7 and 28 days confirm strength gain curves, with 7-day strengths typically reaching 75% of design to verify non-shrinking, non-settling performance under load.

Clean the excavation of debris and standing water, then pour continuously from one point to avoid cold joints—maximum lift height 1.0-1.5 m depending on flowability. No vibration or rodding required; simply allow self-leveling. Cure with wet coverage or compound for 3 days minimum to prevent surface drying and ensure uniform strength development across irregular voids.
