Concrete and Aggregates Safety Commitments

As part of Votorantim Cimentos, at Canada Building Materials, Safety and Health are central to how we operate, guided by the principles of Our VC Way. Our values shape how we train our teams, how we operate our ready-mix and aggregate facilities across Ontario and Quebec, and how we show up on every job site.

Our concrete and aggregates safety commitments are reflected in the recognition we have earned, including Ontario Stone, Sand & Gravel Association Safety Awards for multiple CBM Aggregates locations that achieved zero lost‑time injuries in 2025, many of which have gone 17 years without a single LTI. Our CBM team members have also received individual awards in recognition of their dedication to a culture of proactive engagement.

Our ready‑mix concrete safety culture starts with preparation. We identify and control hazards proactively, conduct regular team safety meetings, and deliver recurrent training focused on both driver safety and jobsite readiness. Customers who work with us know our teams arrive prepared, communicate clearly, and handle materials with care.

Building well begins with building safely. This has guided CBM since 1930 and continues to define how we achieve Lasting Results on every project we support.

Following the
Principles of Our VC Way

Safety and Health are at the core of how we work, guided by a commitment to being ethical and respectful in everything we do.

Every employee, whether managing materials at a plant, operating equipment at an aggregate site, or delivering concrete to an active urban jobsite, plays a role in maintaining safe conditions. Acting with Ownership means taking responsibility for one another and for the quality of the work being done. Our teams are trained to recognize risks early, communicate clearly, and take preventive steps before incidents occur. Personal accountability is not an expectation we impose from the top down. It is part of how every single person on our teams operates.

This shared approach keeps concrete and aggregates safety standards consistent from one location to the next, giving customers and project partners the confidence that comes from working with a team that takes its responsibilities seriously.

Safety is Built Into Every Stage of Operations

Safe operations do not begin when our truck pulls onto your site, but instead, are embedded within how we plan, train, maintain, and execute across every part of our business.

CBM’s ready-mix concrete safety practices and aggregate operations are guided by consistent standards applied across our full network of facilities in Ontario and Quebec.

Our safety standards cover:

• Aggregate extraction and material handling
• Ready mix concrete production and quality control
• Fleet maintenance and driver training
• Delivery coordination and site access planning

Applying the same procedures across our entire operation reduces variability. For contractors and crews, this means fewer disruptions and a supplier whose safety performance is consistent, reliable, and built to deliver Lasting Results.

Ready Mix Concrete Safety Practices on Active Job Sites

Construction sites change quickly, and our teams are trained to adapt without compromising safety. Drivers and logistics coordinators arrive prepared, having reviewed site conditions, delivery sequences, and access requirements before the pour begins.

Our ready-mix concrete safety practices on active job sites include:

• Pre-delivery planning and communication with site teams
• Controlled delivery positioning and traffic awareness
• Equipment inspection and preventative maintenance
• Clear signaling and coordination during pours

These practices protect people, equipment, and schedules. When conditions shift, our teams Act with Ownership, respond quickly, and support one another to maintain safe, steady progress.

Training, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement

A strong safety culture depends on people who are prepared to Learn and Evolve. CBM invests consistently in training and development that prepares our teams to perform safely and to hold themselves and each other accountable. We participate in:
  • Regular safety training and refreshers that ensure protocols remain consistent across all plants.

  • Hazard identification programs that empower every employee to Act with Ownership and report potential hazards immediately.

  • Incident review and prevention planning informed by data, helping us Learn and Evolve from experience and avoid repetition of past errors.

  • Cross‑team knowledge sharing, so best practices are applied company‑wide and built upon over time.

VCNA also holds a Safety Leadership Conference to reinforce safety and health as core values. It is part of how our safety culture continues to strengthen and sustain Lasting Results year after year.

Protecting Communities and Project Partners

Our concrete and aggregates safety commitments protect the people working alongside us, the communities near our facilities, and the timelines our customers depend on.

When CBM maintains consistent, well-documented safety standards, the benefits extend to:

• Reliable project execution
• Reduced jobsite disruptions
• Safer public environments near operations
• Long-term trusted partnerships

Customers return to CBM because they know what to expect from a team that values Safety and Health as deeply as production excellence. That consistency is earned, and it is how we demonstrate that responsibility and care lead to Lasting Results.

Safety Supported by Measurable Standards

CBM aligns its operations with recognized industry regulations and internal performance benchmarks. Documentation, site inspections, and reporting processes provide transparency and accountability across our ready-mix and aggregate operations.

Safety Data Sheets for our concrete and aggregate products are available to customers, contractors, and project teams who require them. Our Global Safety and Health Policy establishes clear performance expectations across every facility and every level of the business.

We measure what matters: consistent compliance, verified performance, and continuous improvement. Through Learning and Evolving, Acting with Ownership, and prioritizing Safety and Health, CBM is building a culture of safety that is strong today and a Sustainable Legacy for the future.
